West Bengal National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) Form
The West Bengal National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) is an important initiative aimed at supporting landless agricultural labourers. Launched on 1st April 1998, this scheme provides financial assistance to those between the ages of 18 and 50 who hold up to 50 decimal of land, including their homestead land. The main income source for these beneficiaries must be their work as agricultural labourers to qualify for this scheme.
Eligibility and Contributions
To take advantage of the NFBS, eligible subscribers are required to deposit a monthly fee of Rs.10/- (ten). The State Government matches this amount until the subscriber reaches the age of 50 years. Upon reaching this age, beneficiaries receive the accumulated amount along with the usual interest that has been earned over the years.
Refunds and Administration
If a subscriber is unable to continue with the scheme for any reason, they can get back the amount they have saved. This refund includes the matching contribution from the State Government. It is important to note that local Gram Panchayats manage the scheme at the village level, while the Block Development Officer and the District Magistrate supervise its implementation.
As of 31.03.2007, there have been a total of 9,13,901 subscribers who have collectively deposited Rs.20.52 crores, earning Rs.4.29 crores in interest over time.
