Dr. YSR Aarogyasri Health Insurance scheme offers unique universal health coverage for the poor in India, making it one of a kind. This initiative empowers patients by allowing them to choose their hospitals for treatment. It ensures a fully transparent process from health camps to screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and claim payment through an online system, preventing misuse and fraud. The scheme complements government hospital facilities, providing comprehensive health care to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, which includes prevention, primary care, and in-patient services. All Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Area/District Hospitals, and Network Hospitals are equipped with Help Desks manned by VAIDYA MITHRA’s to assist even illiterate patients.

Understanding Health Insurance Coverage
- Population Coverage (Breadth of Universal Health Coverage): This scheme targets the members of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, identified by their White Ration Cards linked with Aadhar cards found in the Civil Supplies Department’s database.
- Financial Coverage (Height of Universal Health Coverage): The scheme provides coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per annum on a floater basis, with no co-payment required.
- Benefits Coverage (Depth of Universal Health Coverage): The scheme includes comprehensive outpatient care and inpatient services.
- Out-Patient Services
The scheme ensures access to free screening and outpatient consultations both at health camps and network hospitals as part of its implementation.
- In-Patient Services
It covers 2434 “Listed Therapies” for specified diseases across 30 categories, detailed on the official website: www.ysraarogyasri.ap.gov.in.
The package includes:
- End-to-end cashless service from patient reporting to ten days post-discharge medication, including any complications arising within thirty (30) days after discharge for those who undergo listed therapies.
- Free outpatient evaluations for patients eligible for listed therapies who do not proceed with the treatment.
- Comprehensive coverage for all pre-existing conditions under listed therapies.
- Provision for food and transportation during treatment.
