White Paper on Indian Economy 2024 by BJP in Parliament
The “White Paper on the Indian Economy” published by the Union Ministry of Finance, which highlights economic concerns shortly before the Lok Sabha elections, appears to be factually correct on the surface, but it selectively presents data to highlight the achievements of the NDA government and the shortcomings of the UPA without discussing the latter’s accomplishments or shortcomings.
However, throughout the UPA’s ten-year tenure from 2004 to 2014, India was not one of the “fragile five.” In fact, India’s growth rate between 2004 and 2009 was the fastest throughout the Global Financial Crisis. For example, in 2013, India’s economy was considered one of the “fragile five” global economies by Morgan Stanley. Furthermore, as the white paper states, it is a reality that India is currently among the top five countries in terms of GDP size.
