The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak is a historical novel set in Nazi Germany, narrated by Death. The story revolves around Liesel Meminger, a young girl who is sent to live with foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann, in the fictional town of Molching.
The novel explores themes of mortality, love, and the power of words in the context of the horrors of World War II.Liesel, a little child whose mother cannot afford to care for her, is placed in a new household in the narrative of The Book Thief. Death tells the tale, and by the conclusion, you will respect and even feel sad for him. The story is viewed from an unusual angle by the narrator. A large portion of Death’s speech is extremely poetic and intellectual.
