Railway Concession Form for Physically Handicapped
Indian Railways is committed to providing comprehensive facilities for physically handicapped passengers in trains and at stations. The Government of India works tirelessly to ensure equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and their active participation in nation-building.
Railway Reservation for Handicapped Passengers
- A reservation quota has been set aside for handicapped passengers, which includes two berths in 3AC and four berths in Sleeper Class across all non-suburban trains with concessional tickets. The person accompanying the disabled individual as an escort is also provided a berth from this quota. Generally, lower berths are allocated for persons with disabilities, while middle/upper berths are reserved for their escorts.
- Now, physically challenged persons can book concessional e-tickets online using their Photo Identity cards. This allows for convenient Internet ticketing specifically for disabled individuals, utilising the Photo Identity Cards issued by Indian Railways.
- After the train’s departure, if there are vacant lower berths available, a person with a disability who got an upper/middle berth may approach the TTE/Conductor to request a lower berth.
- In Mail/Express trains, the SLRD coaches function as unreserved coaches exclusively for persons with disabilities.
- For Garib Rath Express trains, available coaches are reserved for persons with disabilities. They can book using the prescribed disability certificate, paying the full fare of the 3AC Class on a first-come-first-served basis.
Rail Fare Concessions for Disabled Passengers
Concessions in rail fare for disabled passengers are available as follows:
Concession for blind persons travelling alone or with an escort – for any purpose:
- 75% in 2nd, SL, 1st Class, 3AC, and AC Chair Car.
- 50% in 1AC and 2AC.
- 25% in 3AC and AC Chair Car of Rajdhani/Shatabdi Trains.
- For deaf and dumb individuals (both disabilities together) travelling alone or with an escort – eligible for the same concession.
- 50% in 2nd, SL, and 1st Class.
- 50% in MST and QST.
- One escort is also eligible for the same concession.
Concession for Mentally Handicapped individuals who cannot travel without an escort – for any purpose:
- 75% in 2nd, SL, 1st Class, 3AC, and AC Chair Car.
- 50% in 1AC and 2AC.
- 25% in 3AC and AC Chair Car of Rajdhani/Shatabdi Trains.
- 50% in MST and QST.
- One escort is also eligible for the same concession.
Concession for Orthopaedically Handicapped/Paraplegic Persons who cannot travel without an escort – for any purpose:
- 75% in 2nd, SL, 1st Class, 3AC, and AC Chair Car.
- 50% in 1AC and 2AC.
- 25% in 3AC and AC Chair Car of Rajdhani/Shatabdi Trains.
- 50% in First and Second Class Monthly and Quarterly season tickets.
- One escort is also eligible for the same concession.
