The Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha. It is a qualifying examination for aspiring teachers in primary (Class I-V) and upper primary (Class VI-VIII) schools in Odisha. The OTET is divided into two papers: Paper-I for candidates who intend to be teachers for Classes I-V and Paper-II for candidates who intend to be teachers for Classes VI-VIII.

In Odisha TET exam pattern 2024 Paper 1 consists of a total of 150 multiple-choice questions which need to complete in 2.5 hours duration.

OTET Exam Pattern 2024 for Paper 2

In OTET 2024 exam pattern for Paper 2 is such that the question paper will contain a total of 150 objective-type multiple-choice questions. The duration of the exam will be 2.5 hours.

OTET Syllabus for Paper 1 (Classes I-V)

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Questions)
    • Child Development (Primary School Child): Understanding children’s development during early childhood (focus on children at primary level), Concept of inclusive education, and understanding children with special needs.
    • Learning and Pedagogy: Understanding learning processes, teaching-learning strategies, and the educational psychology of teaching.
  2. Language I (Odia/Urdu/Hindi/Telugu/Bengali) (30 Questions)
    • Language Comprehension: Reading comprehension, grammar, and verbal ability.
    • Pedagogy of Language Development: Principles of language teaching, learning and acquisition, challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom, and language skills.
  3. Language II (English) (30 Questions)
    • Comprehension: Reading comprehension and vocabulary.
    • Pedagogy of Language Development: Language learning, principles of language teaching, and English grammar and usage.
  4. Mathematics (30 Questions)
    • Content: Numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, measurement, geometry, and data handling.
    • Pedagogical Issues: Understanding the concepts, problem-solving, and pedagogical strategies.
  5. Environmental Studies (30 Questions)
    • Content: Family and friends, food, shelter, water, travel, and things we make and do.
    • Pedagogical Issues: Concept and scope of environmental studies, teaching material aids, and learning principles.

OTET Syllabus Paper II (For Classes VI-VIII)

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Questions)
    • Child Development (Elementary School Child): Growth and development, concept of inclusive education, and learning difficulties.
    • Learning and Pedagogy: Educational psychology of teaching, understanding learning processes, and learner differences.
  2. Language I (Odia/Urdu/Hindi/Telugu/Bengali) (30 Questions)
    • Language Comprehension: Reading comprehension, grammar, and verbal ability.
    • Pedagogy of Language Development: Language learning, language teaching principles, and language skills.
  3. Language II (English) (30 Questions)
    • Comprehension: Reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar.
    • Pedagogy of Language Development: Language teaching strategies, language learning, and principles of language teaching.
  4. Optional Subject (Mathematics and Science or Social Studies) (60 Questions)
    • Mathematics and Science:
      • Mathematics Content: Number system, algebra, geometry, mensuration, data handling, and arithmetic.
      • Science Content: Food, materials, the world of the living, moving things, natural phenomena, and natural resources.
      • Pedagogical Issues (Mathematics and Science): Understanding the concepts, problem-solving methods, and pedagogical strategies.
    • Social Studies:
      • Content: History, geography, social and political life, and economics.
      • Pedagogical Issues: Concept of social studies, strategies, and resources for teaching social studies.
