Malgudi Days Book by RK Narayan
R. K. Narayan’s collection of short stories Malgudi Days was released by Indian Thought Publications in 1943. The residents of Malgudi, a small town in Uttar Pradesh, have modest lives despite a number of hardships. Penguin Classics reprinted the novel outside of India in 1982.
The thirty-two stories in the book are all set in the made-up South Indian village of Malgudi. Every narrative highlights a different aspect of Malgudi life. “Everyone in the book seems to have a capacity for responding to the quality of his particular hour,” the New York Times wrote in describing the book’s virtue. Studying and reviving this art form is necessary.
