West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Khadya Sathi Scheme on January 27, 2016. Under this scheme, 7 crores, or nearly 90% of the state’s population, receive rice and wheat at just Rs 2 per kg. Furthermore, around 50 lakh more individuals can get the same at half the market price.
In recent months, the state government has been working on digitizing ration cards. The new digital ration cards are replacing the old ones. This process is ongoing. If you face any issues with your ration cards, you can visit the website of the Food and Supplies Department of the Government of West Bengal at wbpds.gov.in. From there, you can download the required forms, fill them, and submit them at the relevant borough or municipality office:
- To get a name notified for ration card: Form III-R / Form III-U
- To get the name of a family member added: Form IV-R / Form IV-U
- For name or address correction: Form V-R / Form V-U
- For changing to a new ration shop: Form VI-R / Form VI-U
Those who still hold the old ration cards can get non-PDS items (there are 50 such items) and kerosene oil. Additionally, as announced by the Chief Minister at a press conference in Nabanna, rations will be valid for two months. This ensures that even if someone experiences a delay in receiving the new cards, they have two months to collect their share.
