Through his writings, he instilled a sense of liberation in the hearts of people. The king Ettappa Nayakkar praised his poetic talent and bestowed upon him the title of Bharathi, which means the goddess of arts. In 1949, the Tamil Nadu state government declared Bharathiar’s works as national property, making him the first literary figure in India to be granted this status. Bharathidasan, his contemporary, celebrated him with titles like “Father of Thought,” “Honey Bee of Pure Tamil,” and others. He was also involved in the freedom struggle, editing magazines like ‘India’ and ‘Vijaya’ to promote the cause.
