The play is based on the experiences of Blanche DuBois, a Southern belle who, after a series of personal losses, abandons her once prosperous situation and moves into a run-down New Orleans apartment rented by her sister Stella and brother-in-law Stanley.
A Streetcar Named Desire is one of the most acclaimed plays of the 20th century and Williams’ most popular work. It remains one of his most frequently performed plays and has been adapted several times, most notably the acclaimed 1951 film.
