RTI Form

The Right to Information (RTI) Act in India allows citizens to request information from public authorities. You must determine which public authority (government department or organization) holds the information you seek.

How to File RTI Application

  • Write your application on a plain sheet of paper or use the prescribed form, if available.
  • Address it to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the concerned department.
  • Include your name, contact details, and a clear and specific description of the information required.
  • Mention that the request is under the RTI Act, 2005.
  • You can write the application in English, Hindi, or the official language of the area where the application is being submitted.
  • Application Fee:  Include the application fee (usually ₹10). This can be paid via cash, demand draft, banker’s cheque, or Indian Postal Order (IPO).
  • Submit the application in person, by post, or via the designated online portal, if available.
  • If you do not receive a response within the stipulated time or are not satisfied with the response, you can file a first appeal with the designated First Appellate Authority within 30 days of the date on which the limit for the response expired or from the date of receiving the response.
