Maratha Reservation GR 2024

The state administration released a new regulation. It clarifies the meaning of the phrase “Sagesoyre,” which was crucial to the Maratha reservation movement. The new regulation clarifies that a person’s father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and other relatives from previous generations—including those from same-sex and intercaste marriages—are now considered sagesoyre relatives.

On January 26, the Maharashtra Government Gazette released this rule. The rule, which relates to Sagesoyre particularly, is known as the Maharashtra Scheduled Castes, Freed Castes, Nomadic Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Special Backward Classes rule. This law states that a person’s father, grandpa, great-grandfather, and other ancestors from earlier generations—including those from same-sex and intercaste marriages—are considered Sagesoyre relations.
