In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Norwegian Wood is set in Japan and centers on a young man named Toru Watanabe who is a university student living in Tokyo after his lone buddy from high school, Kizuki, committed suicide. Kizuki’s girlfriend Naoko is another significant character in the book. Even if each character has their own problems, Toru and Naoko become bonded and start to find comfort in one another as a result of Kizuki’s passing.
