गुलामगिरी ग्रंथ

The Gulamgiri Book is an important work by महात्मा जोतिबा फुले, a great thinker, social worker, and revolutionary leader. He dedicated his life to breaking the rigid structure of Indian society. Through his efforts, he aimed to change the shameful living conditions of women, Dalits, and Shudras.

In 1848, he opened the first school for the untouchables in Pune, marking a significant milestone in Indian history as the first of its kind. Later, in 1857, he established a school for girls, which became the first school for girls in India. When there were no teachers available to teach at this school, Savitribai, Jyotiba Phule’s wife, stepped in to lead the efforts. Due to his revolutionary actions, Phule and his associates faced numerous hardships, including frequent relocations and even attempts on his life. Yet, he remained steadfast in his mission. To further institutionalize his vision, Jyotiba Phule founded the Satya Shodhak Samaj in Maharashtra in 1873. One of his significant beliefs was that the Mahar, Kunbi, Mali, and other castes referred to as Shudras were once Kshatriyas, who became Dalits due to caste conspiracies.
