Amavasai Tharpanam
Amavasai Tharpanam is a significant ritual observed on the new moon day. It involves paying homage to our ancestors through specific ceremonies. Early in the morning, individuals should take a bath, apply vibhuti and sandalwood on the forehead, and perform the necessary prayers.
Steps for Performing Amavasai Tharpanam
Start the day with a bath, followed by performing Sandhya Vandana and chanting the Gayatri mantra. Afterward, a second bath at 10 AM is advisable, and then Tharpanam should be done with reverence to the ancestors.

Initially, perform Achamanam:
Use three blades of grass (மூண்்று புல்) in your right hand while performing the rituals. Place two blades of grass underneath your feet as offerings. Wet your hands with water and hold three blades of grass with purity.
Recite the following mantra:
After this, provide offerings to your ancestors. Make your requests with sincerity, remembering them with love and respect.
Now, maintain sanctity by sprinkling water as a sign of respect and by mentally addressing your ancestors. You can say:
This includes remembering your paternal and maternal ancestors with specific names, offering gratitude for their guidance, and seeking their blessings.
