108 Divya Desam List

A Divya Desam, also known as a Vaishnava Divya Desam, refers to one of the 108 Vishnu temples highlighted in the sacred texts of the Alvars (saints). The term “Divya” signifies “divine,” while “Desam” translates to “place of abode” (temple).

Among these 108 temples, 105 are located in various parts of India, one is found in Nepal, and the last two are believed to exist beyond our Earthly realms.

In India, the temples are distributed across Tamil Nadu (84), Kerala (11), Andhra Pradesh (2), Gujarat (1), Uttar Pradesh (4), and Uttarakhand (3). Muktinath, Saligramam is the sole Divya Desam situated in Nepal. The 12 Alvars venerate these Divya Desams in the Divya Prabandha, which is a remarkable collection of 4,000 Tamil verses. The worship at Divya Desams follows either the Thenkalai or Vadakalai traditions.
